Designed with a deep commitment to making daylight an active player in the church’s dynamic atmosphere, the church’s lighting concept was crafted to emphasize the natural beauty of the space. From early morning prayers to evening services, educational activities, and concerts, the light within Hvinningdal Church is constantly changing, mirroring the flow of life within its walls.

By combining soft, diffused natural light with direct artificial lighting, the design highlights the structure of the church and creates an ever-evolving ambiance. The lighting is carefully designed to serve as a tool for storytelling—whether it’s bathing the high back wall in light from the tower or creating intimate moments with carefully positioned spotlights and wall washers. The cylindrical pendants that hang above the pews and the wall wash lights that illuminate the columns along the facade enhance both the beauty and function of the space. Made Specific is proud to have delivered 48 pendant lamps for this remarkable project, contributing to the church’s unique lighting experience.

With its elevated location atop a hill, Hvinningdal Church serves as a beacon in its surroundings, particularly when the church’s tower and facade are bathed in light during the evening hours. The integration of interior and exterior lighting creates a seamless experience, guiding visitors from the churchyard to the sacred space within.
