The Dean
Munich, Germany
2019
A bold interplay of contrasts defines The Dean Munich, where expressive design, rich materials, and a distinct visual identity come together to create a vibrant hospitality experience. Drawing inspiration from the cultural energy of the 1980s, the interiors balance polished surfaces with soft textures, while sculptural elements and saturated colours set a confident and contemporary tone throughout the hotel’s public spaces.
For this project, Made Specific developed bespoke lighting solutions for the lobby and meeting areas spaces where atmosphere, identity, and functionality are equally essential.
In the lobby, the lighting plays a central role in reinforcing the hotel’s strong aesthetic direction. Sculptural luminaires are integrated into the architectural composition, adding rhythm and verticality while enhancing the interplay between reflective materials, warm metals, and soft furnishings. The result is a layered and dynamic environment where light contributes to both mood and visual storytelling.
Within the meeting and event spaces, the lighting takes on a more structured and functional expression while remaining visually distinctive. Linear and geometric fixtures define the rooms, providing balanced illumination suited for presentations, gatherings, and flexible use. At the same time, subtle detailing and refined finishes ensure a seamless connection to the hotel’s overall design language.
Through carefully considered lighting solutions, Made Specific has contributed to shaping spaces that feel both atmospheric and purposeful, where light enhances contrast, supports functionality, and becomes an integral part of the guest experience.
