Hilton Heathrow
London, UK
2014
For the renovation of the guest rooms at Hilton Heathrow Airport Hotel, Made Specific delivered bespoke lighting solutions developed in close alignment with the overall interior concept. Inspired by the precision and aerodynamics of first-class aircraft cabins, the project translates the aesthetics of travel into a calm and comfortable hotel experience.
Lighting plays a central role in shaping the atmosphere of the rooms and is seamlessly integrated into the architecture. Custom-designed bedside lamps with pleated shades draw inspiration from British Airways’ first-class cabins, emitting a soft, warm glow that enhances the feeling of privacy and comfort. Integrated directly into the curved headboards, the lamps function both as practical reading lights and as atmospheric design elements.
Beyond the bedside lighting, illumination is carefully considered throughout the room to support its compact layout. The lighting highlights materials, forms, and textures, while subtly defining zones within the limited footprint of each guestroom. In the bathrooms, integrated and backlit mirror lighting reinforces the clean, graphic aesthetic while ensuring optimal functionality.
The project demonstrates how bespoke lighting can respond to both spatial constraints and a strong narrative design concept. Through tailor-made solutions, Made Specific has contributed to a cohesive interior where light, architecture, and materials work together to create a refined and welcoming environment—offering guests a sense of comfort, precision, and understated luxury at one of the world’s busiest travel hubs
