25 Hours, Paper Island
Copenhagen, Denmark
2023
A project rooted in people, craftsmanship, and local collaboration.
This project is a clear example of how meaningful design often grows from close relationships, shared knowledge, and the courage to create something for the first time.
The custom wooden elements were produced by a local woodworker based in Egebjerg, running a small one-man workshop. Through close dialogue, physical meetings, and a hands-on approach, ideas quickly turned into tailored solutions. Material choices, colors, and detailing were developed collaboratively, allowing flexibility and craftsmanship to guide the process. The partnership not only added character to the project but also supported a local start-up by contributing to their portfolio.
Small details play an equally important role. The origami birds featured in the lighting elements were folded by hand using leftover materials from previous workshops. What began as a simple experiment quickly evolved into a production process carried out internally, led by a team member with a strong passion for handcraft and decorative work. Each bird was folded with care, giving the project a tactile, human quality.
The result is a project built on trust, creativity, and collaboration across disciplines and personal connections. By combining local production, reuse of materials, and in-house craftsmanship, the lighting solutions became deeply connected to both place and process.
Made Specific contributed custom-designed bird arches as well as a unique, site-specific lighting feature — a sculptural “boat” installation for the restaurant Tiger Lily. The remaining lighting scheme primarily features solutions from Louis Poulsen.
This project reflects our belief that bespoke lighting is not just about form and function, but about the people, stories, and collaborations behind it.
